Support Respect, Tolerance and Inclusiveness in the Democratic Party

Not all Democrats agree that the crime of abortion should be undemocratically forced upon our nation, our families, let alone our children. Yet incredibly the National Democratic Platform and many state party platforms ignore this glaring reality. Democrats who still support the Party’s traditional position on respect for innocent Human Life should not be made to suffer bigotry, discrimination and second-class citizen status within a Party whose leaders claim is a “Big Tent“! Our Party’s leaders must practice what they preach, or step aside. It’s as simple as that!
By disregarding the moral values and religious beliefs of an entire bloc of voters, those currently in control of the Party are not only practicing the discrimination they condemn, they are also inflicting the Party great harm. If Democratic Party leaders wants to win the hearts and minds of the American people they must mature, respect, and adopt their moral values and religious beliefs!
The Florida Democratic League (FDL) fully supports language on this issue that respects and is representative of all Democrats, not just a few. How can you help? Here are 3 simple ways.
1.) Contact your local Party and tell them you support the respectful, non-discriminatory language listed below.
2.) Ask 10 friends to contact their local Party and ask for non-discrimination of Democrats who disagree that the crime of abortion should be legal.
3.) Make a contribution to FDL (see our address below) so we can continue to work towards adoption of respectful, non-discriminatory language.
Proposed Platform Language to Unite Democrats Around Historic Democratic Principles
“We respect the conscience of each American and recognize that members of our Party have deeply held and sometimes differing positions on issues of personal conscience, such as abortion and the death penalty. We recognize the diversity of views as a source of strength, and we welcome into our ranks all Americans who may hold differing positions on these and other issues.
However, we can find common ground. We believe that we can reduce the number of abortions because we are united in our support for policies that assist families who find themselves in crisis or unplanned pregnancies. We believe that women deserve to have a breadth of options available as they face pregnancy including, among others, support and resources needed to handle the challenges of pregnancy, adoption, and parenthood; access to education, healthcare, and childcare; and appropriate child support. We envision a new day without financial or societal barriers to bringing a planned or unplanned pregnancy to term.”
