FACEBOOK BUSTS ISRAELI ELECTIONS INTERFERENCE

Israeli campaign to disrupt elections busted by Facebook

JERUSALEM (AP) — Facebook said Thursday it banned an Israeli company that ran an influence campaign aimed at disrupting elections in various countries and has canceled dozens of accounts engaged in spreading disinformation.

Nathaniel Gleicher, Facebook’s head of cybersecurity policy, told reporters that the tech giant had purged 65 Israeli accounts, 161 pages, dozens of groups and four Instagram accounts.

Although Facebook said the individuals behind the network attempted to conceal their identities, it discovered that many were linked to the Archimedes Group, a Tel Aviv-based political consulting and lobbying firm that publicly boasts of its social media skills and ability to “change reality.”

“It’s a real communications firm making money through the dissemination of fake news,” said Graham Brookie, director of the Digital Forensic Research Lab at the Atlantic Council, a think tank collaborating with Facebook to expose and explain disinformation campaigns.

He called Archimedes’ commercialization of tactics more commonly tied to governments, like Russia, an emerging–and worrying–trend in the global spread of social media disinformation. “These efforts go well beyond what is acceptable in free and democratic societies,” Brookie said.

Gleicher described the pages as conducting “coordinated inauthentic behavior,” with accounts posting on behalf of certain political candidates, smearing their opponents and presenting as legitimate local news organizations peddling supposedly leaked information.

“Our team assessed that because this group is primarily organized to conduct deceptive behavior, we are removing them from the platform and blocking them from coming back,” he added.

The activity appeared focused on Sub-Saharan African countries but was also scattered in parts of Southeast Asia and Latin America, what Brookie called a “staggering diversity of regions” that pointed to the group’s sophistication.

The fake pages, pushing a steady stream of political news, racked up 2.8 million followers. Thousands of people expressed interest in attending at least one of the nine events organized by those behind the pages. Facebook could not confirm whether any of the events actually occurred. Some 5,000 accounts joined one or more of the fake groups.

Gleicher said the misleading accounts primarily aimed to influence people in Nigeria, Senegal, Togo, Angola, Niger and Tunisia.

The most significant audience engagement was generated in Malaysia, which has a vast media market and held a general election last year, according to Brookie and his team at the Atlantic Council.

Facebook investigations revealed that Archimedes had spent some $800,000 on fake ads, paid for in Brazilian reals, Israeli shekels and U.S. dollars. Gleicher said the deceptive ads dated back to 2012, with the most recent activity occurring last month.

Facebook shared a few examples of the fake content, including one post mocking 2018 Congolese presidential candidate Martin Fayulu for crying foul play in the elections that vaulted Felix Tshisekedi to victory. Many governments and watchdog groups condemned the elections as rigged and declared Fayulu the rightful winner.

Given the geographical variety of Archimedes’ operations, “it’s impossible to determine a single ideological thread,” said Brookie. “They weren’t pushing exclusively far-right or anti-globalist content. It appears to be a clear-cut case of spreading disinformation through economic incentive.”

He added that Archimedes-linked pages pulled from the playbook of Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. presidential election, with widely amplified yet tailored messages targeting potential voters and “creating a specter of leaked information.” Most impostor accounts shared a key tactic: posing as a campaigner for a particular candidate and then sharing opinions that actual supporters would find offensive.

Facebook has come under pressure to more robustly and transparently tackle misinformation aimed at sowing division and confusion around elections, since the revelation that the company was slow to detect and respond to Russian election meddling.

Thursday’s disclosure, which Facebook pointed to as proof of its accelerating “progress rooting out abuse,” underscored the extent to which private actors are leveraging the platform to meddle in elections and more broadly tap the “growing market for disinformation,” said Brookie.

But the company’s efforts to fight fake accounts are “often made in great haste,” said Jonathan Klinger from the Israeli Digital Rights Movement, and if Archimedes does have legitimate links to political parties and candidates, Facebook can expect a legal battle.

On its website, Archimedes, which presents itself as consulting firm involved in campaigns for presidential elections, does not hide its efforts to manipulate public opinion. Rather, the company advertises it.

The site, featuring a montage of stock photos from Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, boasts of its “own unique field within the social media realm” and its efforts to “take every advantage available in order to change reality according to our client’s wishes.”

Little information is available beyond its slogan, which is “winning campaigns worldwide,” and a vague blurb about the group’s “mass social media management” software, which it said enabled the operation of an “unlimited” number of online accounts.

A message seeking comment from the company was not immediately returned.

Archimedes’ chief executive is Elinadav Heymann, according to Swiss negotiations consultancy Negotiations.CH, where he is listed as one of the group’s consultants.

A biography posted to the company’s website describes Heymann as the former director of the Brussels-based European Friends of Israel lobbying group, a former political adviser in Israel’s parliament and an ex-intelligence agent for the Israeli air force.

Heymann did not return messages left with Daniel Hardegger, Negotions.CH’s managing director. Shortly after The Associated Press got in touch, Hardegger said that Heymann requested that his biography be removed from the site.

ABORTION: HOW TO MAKE IT SAFER FOR ALL WOMEN

Stop war on womenABORTION: HOW TO MAKE IT SAFER FOR ALL WOMEN AND TRULY CHAMPION THEIR REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS AND HEALTH EQUALITY

THE PRO-CHOICE WOMEN’S HEALTH EQUALITY ACT

Here’s a great way to effectively champion Women’s Reproductive Rights and Health Equality by leveling the playing field for all women, especially poor, disenfranchised, medically needy, working class women, who have been physically injured or psychologically harmed by a pro-choice decision.

The Pro-Choice Women’s Health Equality Act WOULD:

1. REQUIRE abortion providers to carry the minimum $500,000 Malpractice / Injury Insurance per procedure/patient;

2. INCLUDE mental health (i.e., emotional, psychological, and social well-being) as a basis for a pro-choice decision malpractice/injury claim;

3. PROHIBIT a woman’s waiver of right to file a malpractice/injury claim for her pro-choice pregnancy termination decision;

4. REQUIRE all women sign a form certifying having been provided a state-approved injury claim form prior to her pregnancy termination procedure;

5. MAKE violation of any section of this law a felony, with automatic forfeiture of medical license and forfeiture of all assets (including real property) associated with the violation;

6. PROTECT all abortion facility personnel from any and all types of adverse action, discrimination or retaliation for reporting any injury, illness, fatality, unethical conduct, or violation of any municipal, state or federal statute, or medical safety concern or standard; and,

7. ELIMINATE or EASE the statute of limitations for filing injury claims to 10 years after the pregnancy termination procedure. This will protect all women, especially the medically-needy and the poor by ensuring and safeguarding their right to the highest standards of professional medical care as well as abortion-related injury compensation.

Know of a better way to truly champion women’s reproductive rights and health equality?

What better way to protect defenseless, highly traumatized women at what are perhaps their most emotionally vulnerable and psychologically distressing moments? What better way of promoting the very highest standards of health care and medical attention for all of Florida’s women?
Support of the Pro-Choice Women’s Health Equality Act is to genuinely champion women’s reproductive rights and health equality protections.
The Pro-Choice Women’s Health Equality Act provides the following FIVE important, tangible benefits and real protections to Florida’s women:
1. Champions women’s reproductive rights and health equality precisely at a moment when many women are extremely vulnerable to abuse, exploitation, intimidation, and emotional manipulation.
2. It completely avoids needless controversy and discussion, entirely sidelining the pro-choice / pro-life debate through complete issue neutrality.
3. Reaffirms and secures the position of true champions of women, regardless of the support, neutrality, or opposition to the pro-choice decision.
4. Encourages and promotes the highest level of medical care and professionalism, and protects a woman’s right to be justly compensated for any injury or harm suffered as a result of a pro-choice procedure.
5. Unmasks the demagogues and phonies who only pay lip service to women’s reproductive rights and health equality, while shamelessly exploiting women’s pro-choice decisions for selfish, financial gain, and ideological and political advantage.
What is the pro-Women’s camp waiting for? Be a true champion of women’s reproductive rights and health equality by pressing your legislators to vote for this true milestone in women’s health equality and safety protection legislation!
This one statute could, practically speaking, save the lives of thousands of women and their babies in our state while simultaneously avoiding getting bogged and mired in the “right to choose” debate!

Additionally, the bill provides our state’s personal injury attorneys with a new source of clients needing their legal services and professional representation!

HOW DO I RESPOND TO THE SLUR OF “HOMOPHOBIA / HOMOPHOBIC”?

NEVER STAY SILENT WHEN ATTACKED WITH THE UGLY SLUR OF “HOMOPHOBIC / HOMOPHOBIA”

Aberro ataque 03

Homophobia” doesn’t exist. It has never been clinically diagnosed or medically identified. Never! It’s a hateful, demeaning, disrespectful slur used to ridicule and incite real violence against everyone who disagrees with aberrosexualism.

HOMOPHOBIA” has never been listed as a disorder in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM), the book that lists mental and psychological disorders. Homosexalism, however, has been listed in the DSM. It was taken out of the DSM in 1973, only because of bullying by corrupt extremists, known as aberrosexualists, working to legalize sodomy and other anatomically and biologically aberrant sexual behavioral choices and vices. But the fact is that so-called “homophobia” has never been listed.

Homophobia,” “homophobe,” and “homophobic” are all disrespectful, pejorative, non-scientific, non-medical slurs used to attack, marginalize, and incite violence against everyone who disagrees with an anatomically incorrect, biologically aberrant, morally deviant sexual behavioral choice, “identity,” or “expression,” better known as aberrosexualism.

Homophobia,” “homophobe,” and “homophobic” are all hate-loaded slurs used by partisans of aberrosexualism to unjustly discriminate, stigmatize, demean, hurt and offend those who disagree with their extremist ideology and irrational agenda. These slurs are as despicable as any other ethnic, racial or sexist slur. They have no place in civil, respectable public discourse and it should be understood that it is never acceptable. Never!

Use of the pejorative terms “homophobia,” “homophobe,” and “homophobic” to denigrate the universal rejection of aberrosexualism is a verbal act of aggression against humanity and violates our basic right to have language used in a truthful, objective, precise and depoliticized manner.

Homophobia” does not mean an irrational fear of or discrimination against Aberrosexuals. “Homo” means MAN or PERSON, not “homosexual” or “homosexualism,” and “phobia” means “irrational fear of,” not “discrimination against.” If anything, “homophobia” is the irrational fear of other human beings, not the very rational rejection of aberrant sexual behavior or the rational opposition to the antinatural Aberrosexualist ideology.

It’s easy for those desensitized by bigotry, ignorance, or intolerance to shrug “homophobe” off as just a word, and dismiss everyone that gets upset over it as too sensitive. Interestingly, few would make the same argument with the n-word. That’s because we recognize what a loaded term it is, bound up in centuries of painful history and very real violence.

Using the “h” slurs and making derogatory comments against those who disagree with Aberrosexualism or biologically aberrant sexual conduct, isn’t much different. Both are the kind of thing that tells us more about the person using them than the people he’s uttering them about. It makes him look like a bigot, and it makes him look ignorant.

One of the things that unites bigots, racists and the partisans of the Aberrosexualist ideology that pushes the macabre “celebration” of biologically aberrant sexual conduct, is their inability to perceive other people as equals deserving of the same civility and respect they want for themselves. They also forget that slurs, insults and persecution are the arguments of those who simply have no arguments. Perhaps that’s why Aberrosexualists invariably resort to slurs, insults and persecution against those who dare to disagree with them.

In the end, they must recognize that those who demand respect must first extend it to others. It’s that simple!

RESPONDING TO EXTREMISTS’ BULLYING, INTIMIDATION AND NAME-CALLING

PROTECT YOUR CLASSMATES, CO-WORKERS, FAMILY MEMBERS AND YOURSELF FROM ASSAULT, AGGRESSION, AND VIOLENCE

■ Demand a “Homophobe,” “Homophobic,” or “Homophobia” Anti-Slur Policy be adopted, posted and reviewed at work and at school. Work with colleagues to identify and support enforcement of community-wide expectations.

■ Post the “Respectful Space” posters in work areas, classrooms, and hallways (available from FDL).

■ Intervene immediately to stop the use of these hurtful slurs: Use a “matter of fact” tone. “Excuse me, that language is unacceptable. “Homophobe,” “homophobic,” or “homophobia” are put downs. Using them is against our rules and regulations.” Call these slurs demeaning, degrading, and disrespectful.

If time is available, define the meaning of a slur. Explain that slurs dehumanize, promote hatred and justify violence against its victims.

■ If needed, clearly explain why you are calling the incident “hate speech.” Occasionally, people don’t realize the bigotry or prejudice in what they are saying. Take a few moments to explain why what they are saying is name‐calling.

<> “Calling someone a ‘homophobe‘ or ‘homophobic‘ is offensive. Although you might mean ‘stupid’, you are actually saying that “stupid” and being pro-sexual normalcy or expressing disagreement with anatomically and biologically aberrant sexual behavioral choices, or aberrosexualism, are the same. It is not okay to put down other people. Furthermore, it’s not okay to call other people stupid.”

■ Take Advantage of Teachable Moments. Ask the person if they know why the term is so offensive. If persons understand where the slur comes from, or the history of why it is hurtful, it can often help avert further offenses. “The word ‘homophobia’ refers to an alleged psychological condition that does not exist. The word ‘homophobia‘ first appeared in print in a May 23, 1969 article published in the antisocial, pornographic magazine Screw. It was used to ridicule men who didn’t want others to think they were aberrosexual.”

■ Confront Sexist Stereotypes. Sexist stereotypes are simplistic notions held by individuals or groups against those who disagree with their sexual ideology or political agenda. Hearing somebody refer to those who are pro-sexual normalcy or who disagree with biologically aberrant sexual behavioral choices as “homophobes” or calling people “homophobic” should also be addressed as bullying behavior.

■ Seek Immediate Measures. If appropriate, seek immediate consequences for the individual using the ugly slurs of “homophobe,” “homophobic,” or “homophobia.”

■ Follow up privately, if necessary. Check in with the person who was called a name to make sure s/he is okay, and to let them know that you care.

■ Follow up with the Name-Caller. It’s also a good idea to follow up with the individual that used the hurtful language. Often times, individuals that bully are in need of positive role models, not just correction.

Additional Tips for High School Classrooms

HERE ARE 7 ways you can address offensive, disrespectful “homophobe,” “homophobic,” or “homophobia” slurs

■ Let the student know that you have pro-sexual normalcy friends or family and that you find what they said personally offensive.

<> “You know, I have good friends who are fair-minded and pro-sexual normalcy, so I find what you just said to be really offensive.”

■ Explain to the student why “homophobe,” “homophobic,” or “homophobia” are inappropriate.

<> “What you just said was really inappropriate because you are implying that there is something wrong with being in favor of sexual normalcy when there isn’t.”

■ Ask student to repeat what they said using non-offensive, respectful language.

<> “You need to say that again without the disrespectful hate language please.”

■ Remind students that there is nothing wrong with being pro-sexual normalcy, orthosexual or with disagreeing with anatomically and biologically aberrant sexual behavioral choices, or aberrosexualism.

<> “Just because you may dislike being orthosexual or pro-sexual normalcy, you should not use a word that actually dehumanizes, disrespects and hurts.”

■ Teach students more sophisticated words to substitute for “homophobe,” “homophobic,” or “homophobia.” You could teach just one word or several and have a poster on the wall to point to. Remind students that using hate-loaded slurs makes them look ignorant, while using more sophisticated terms will make them look smarter. When a student uses a phrase like “that’s homophobic,” have them restate it using more sophisticated words such as orthosexual or pro-sexual normalcy.

■ Make a list of slurs with your students that they commonly use and hear. Talk about why these slurs are wrong and about what kind of people might use those terms. Keep this banned words list handy, on the wall, etc., to remind students never to use them.

■ Teach students the pejorative meaning of the slurs “homophobe,” “homophobic,” or “homophobia” (degrading, dehumanizing, demeaning, discriminating, and disrespecting everyone who is pro-sexual normalcy or orthosexual), talk about the similarities between the antisocial aberrosexualist slurs and ethnic, racial or sexist slurs. Then remind them that they are being hurtful whether they know it or not.

VITAL QUESTIONS ON THE BANNING OF AMERICAN HISTORICAL SYMBOLS AND MEMORIAL MONUMENTS FROM PUBLIC PLACES

INTOLERANCE AND HATE
HAVE NO BOUNDS.

EXTREMISM AND IGNORANCE
HAVE NO LIMITS.

{Unanimously adopted by the Florida Democratic League, Friday, May 5, 2017}

Lee, Robert E. Dallas, TX

MEMORIAL MONUMENT TO GENERAL ROBERT E. LEE IN DALLAS, TEXAS

WHEN MISGUIDED IDEOLOGICAL EXTREMISTS push us, as a people, to go along with the un-American banning,  desecration, or vandalism of our historical national symbols and memorial monuments, the Florida Democratic League, our state’s leading minority-led, Democratic voters’ civil rights, equality, and social justice advocacy organization, thinks it’s time to publicly call out these extremists and demand forthright, honest answers to critical questions on this burning national issue.

>> VITAL QUESTIONS DEMAND HONEST ANSWERS

FIRST, how are the banning, desecrating, or vandalizing of our nation’s historical symbols and memorial monuments any different from book burnings, speech censoring, persecuting minorities, or outlawing political, religious or philosophical ideas or symbols? How?

SECOND, how do the banning, desecrating, or vandalizing our nation’s historical symbols and memorial monuments promote ethnic or racial tolerance, goodwill, or understanding? How?

THIRD, what right does anyone have to ban from our public spaces historical national symbols and revered memorial monuments representing political, philosophical or religious views they personally hate or dislike?

FOURTH, how are the banning, desecrating, or vandalizing our nation’s historical symbols and memorial monuments not ignorant, hate-filled acts of bigotry, intolerance, and violence against our democratic principles, constitutional freedoms, and our historical past as a nation?

FIFTH, regardless of why a historical memorial monument was erected by prior American generations, shouldn’t basic respect for those Americans, their lives and contributions, their civil rights, equality, and dignity demand respect for their historical symbols and memorial monuments as well?

SIXTH, how are our nation’s freedoms, civil rights and civic values upheld or strengthened by the banning, desecrating, or vandalizing of our nation’s historical symbols and memorial monuments? How?

FINALLY, if the ideological extremists pushing this un-American historical and cultural vandalism had any respect for themselves, for American democracy and for the Rule of Law, why don’t they put the issue to a vote of the people?

Isn’t it clear that banning, desecrating, or vandalizing our historical national symbols and memorial monuments is, at best, misguided and fanatical extremism and, at worse, a naked abuse of political power and a totalitarian misuse of government violence and force?

Doesn’t true love of country impose on us the solemn duty to remember and respect the fact that all Americans, regardless of what side of the Civil War they were on, sacrificed greatly, with courage and patriotism, to defend and uphold the values and principles they believed, in good conscience, were true and worth fighting and dying for?

>> WHAT IS REALLY AT STAKE HERE?

Isn’t it a sad and ugly spectacle for New Orleans Mayor Mitchell Landrieu to attempt to justify tearing down his city’s historical memorial monuments by arrogantly condemning fellow Americans defeated in the Civil War for falling “on the wrong side of history”? Would Landrieu ever have expressed the same opinion had the Confederacy won? What does which side of history our fellow Americans landed in, have to do with basic decency, equality, and elemental respect for their human and civil rights, their dignity or their historical roots?

Renowned Russian intellectual, Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, unjustly imprisoned and brutally tortured by the Marxist totalitarian Soviet regime, a man praised everywhere as the great “Conscience of the West,” once wrote that “to destroy a people you must first sever them from their roots.” How does Mayor Landrieu’s cowardly and thuggish vandalism differ from the destructive severing of our country’s roots Solzhenitsyn warned us about?

Isn’t American history replete with instances of U.S. government abuses, crimes, injustices, and corruption that are both painful and shameful to most, if not all, fair-minded, patriotic Americans? Will we ban the American flag because of this? Why not take this issue to its logical conclusion, Mr. Landrieu? Are you ready to abolish all historical national symbols, memorial monuments and public references of all former slave-owning Americans, our Founding Fathers included? And, while you are at it, would you agree to ban all former slave-holding states from the Union as well?

Stop this socially corrosive and racially divisive demagoguery! Stop the bigoted and hateful theatrics! Stop the ignorant, cowardly attacks on American national symbols and memorial monuments!

Respect Historic American Symbols and Memorial Monuments.
Respect History. Respect Freedom. Respect the American People.

THE AMERICAN PEOPLE HAVE SPOKEN

ON THE ELECTION OF DONALD J. TRUMP
AS PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES

{ Issued Thursday, November 10, 2016 }

trump-donald-01PRESIDENT-ELECT DONALD J. TRUMP

ON TUESDAY, November 8th, the people of the United States expressed their will at the ballot box and elected entrepreneur Donald J. Trump as the 45th President of the United States. Nationwide, Secretary Hillary Clinton got a popular vote lead of more than 2 million, while President-elect Trump won in 2,657 counties and Mrs. Clinton won in 487.

Unable to overcome the many criminal accusations and public scandals in which she has been involved, Mrs. Clinton lost the presidential election despite having spent a record $1.2 billion on her campaign — twice as much as President-Elect Trump who spent only $600 million, according to the latest records.

The Florida Democratic League extends our congratulations to President-Elect Trump for his victory and offers to work together, as we have done with every Administration, on issues of importance to the American people, in general, and Floridians, in particular. We are pleased with President-Elect Trump’s willingness and pledge to work with all Americans, regardless of party affiliation, on advancing legislation and public policies that put America first, both at home and abroad.

The central issues in this election have been, to name a few, the immoral and costly wars waged against other peoples throughout the world; the suicidal war against our own people through the grisly crime of abortion; a broken immigration system; the alarming spread of poverty across our land; the treasonous dismantling of our nation’s industrial infrastructure; the massive loss of jobs to slave or semi-slave labor in third-world countries; and an outlaw banking and monetary system that mercilessly exploits, impoverishes, and financially enslaves all of us.

The Florida Democratic League is committed to rolling up our sleeves and working with our President-Elect to solve these and other vital issues. We do so because we firmly believe that our country works best when all of us have the opportunity to succeed, and share in the prosperity we help to build. We also urge all members of Congress to put aside partisan politics and put America first, leading with an open mind for a better tomorrow. We must never forget just how far we’ve come, and safeguard the progress we’ve all made together.

We encourage the country to support our President-elect; to give him the chance to lead, sharing the belief that our prosperity and well-being are built on hard work, accountability, cooperation, and the traditional moral values and time-proven ethical principles that have made America great and will secure our future.

God bless the American people. God bless the President-Elect.

SOME “ENDORSEMENTS” ARE SIMPLY UNETHICAL

FDL Logo

Florida Democratic League Letter of Advice to all Candidates:

DECLINING SOME ENDORSEMENTS IS THE ONLY RESPONSIBLE THING TO DO

Dear Miami-Dade Candidate for Elected Office:

The Florida Democratic League, as our state’s leading, minority-led, Democratic voters’ human rights and social justice advocacy organization, alerts you to the fact that an extremist homosexualist hate group operating in the Miami-Dade County area calling itself “SAVE” may invite you to meet with it and respond to a deceptive “candidate questionnaire.”

As a respectable political candidate, you should know that “SAVE” has brought political defeat to practically every candidate it has endorsed in past elections. Among the candidates who, to their detriment, accepted this extremist group’s dubious endorsement and consequently went down in humiliating defeat are:

  • Gubernatorial candidate Bill McBride defeated by pro-Family Governor Jeb Bush;
  • Attorney General candidate Buddy Dyer defeated by then pro-Family Charlie Crist;
  • State House candidate Jackie Colyer defeated by now State Representative Dorothy Bendross-Mindingall;
  • State House candidate Anthony Williams defeated by now State Representative Wilbur T. Holloway;
  • State House candidate Israel Andrews defeated by now State Representative Edward Bullard;
  • State House candidate Ronald Herrera defeated by now State Representative Ken Sorenson, in Monroe County;
  • County Commission candidate Roberto Curbelo defeated by Commissioner Joe Martínez;
  • School Board Member Jacqueline Pepper defeated by challenger Frank Cobo;
  • Miami Beach mayoral candidate Elaine Bloom defeated by Commissioner David Dermer;
  • Miami Beach commission candidate Bernie Navarro defeated by Richard L. Steinberg;
  • Andres Rivero, County Commission District 7 lost to Carlos Gimenez and Xavier Suarez;
  • Incumbent Circuit Court Judge Bruce Levy lost to first-time candidate Barbara Areces in a landslide 58-42;
  • Incumbent Circuit Court Judge Henry Harnage lost to Peter Adrien in a landslide 57-43;
  • Incumbent County Court Judge Jeffrey Swartz lost to first-time candidate Ada Pozo-Revilla;
  • City of Miami Shores candidate Javier Reynaldos, “SAVE” board member, came in last of four candidates in a much-touted “SAVE” Dade stronghold!

Let’s be very clear: rather than seeking to endorse your candidacy and your campaign, what “SAVE” extremists really seek is your endorsement of their extremist agenda, their extremist ideology, and their extremist beliefs. How could this ever be, even remotely, in your best interest? It’s not!

You should also know that “SAVE” doesn’t even represent or speak for the “gays” [sic], lesbians, or bisexuals in Miami-Dade who have chosen to disassociate and distance themselves from the group’s deceptive, thuggish and undemocratic tactics.

Through these unethical tactics, “SAVE” extremists have made it clear that they’re not about respecting voter rights and the democratic process, but rather about exploiting political candidates and elected officials to advance their narrow-minded, self-centered ideological interests.

The Florida Democratic League enthusiastically supports the American electoral process and the constitutional right of all Floridians to equality, freedom, equal protection, and due process. On past Election Days, our hundreds of citizen-volunteers work diligently at polling places throughout Miami-Dade County defending the core civic values which constitute the bedrock of our nation’s freedoms and which ultimately produce great political victories.

We look forward to working with you in the days ahead, as we continue this most important effort on behalf of our families and, indeed, all Floridians, regardless of their color, creed, disability, nationality, sex or race. Together, we will forge with resolve the unity needed to make our communities great for everyone, including the individuals “SAVE extremists politically exploit and falsely claim to represent. Thank you and God bless you.

With warmest regards,

CANDIDATES BEWARE OF “SAVE” EXTREMISM!

::: OFFICIAL FDL STATEMENT :::

“SAVE’S” ENDORSEMENT:
INAPPROPRIATE AND UNACCEPTABLE
UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE

{Unanimously Adopted in Miami, Florida on March 2, 2012}

AS OUR STATE’S largest minority-led Democratic voters’ civil rights and social justice advocacy organization, the Florida Democratic League (FDL) is a battle-proven champion in the struggle for equality and respect for the dignity and rights of all Floridians regardless of race, color, sex, disability or creed.

The League, its directors, members and friends, are deeply troubled that any candidate would naively seek the endorsement of groups working against equality, human rights, civil liberties, constitutional freedoms, and the common good of all Floridians. We refer to groups such as the KKK, “SAVE,” Equality Florida, Aryan Nations, among others, pushing ideological agendas that attack our cherished values, undermine the Rule of Law, and threaten, with their hate, bigotry and intolerance, the very fabric of our civil society.

“SAVE,” in particular, is an extremist ideological hate group publicly on record in support of overthrowing Florida’s Constitution, undermining fundamental voter rights, and pushing an extremist ideological agenda that seeks to force all of us to accept as normal and sane, universally-rejected, sexual behavioral choices, fetishes, preferences, “identities” and “expressions” in violation of our Constitutionally-protected equal protection and due process rights.

<> HOW DO WE KNOW THIS?

Among its many egregious and unethical political practices, between 2002 and 2008, “SAVE” attacked important democratic initiatives, voter referendums, and citizen petitions as well as openly and unabashedly endorsed the criminal violation of the fundamental right of citizens to democratically petition their government.

In 2010, the group attacked the basic rights of abandoned and orphaned children to adoption by families capable of providing them with healthy, sane, and biologically correct examples of sexual behavior, identity and expression. In 2014, “SAVE” attacked Florida’s constitutional respect for the time-tested, voter-approved, historical definition of the institution of Marriage.

“SAVE” has offended fair-minded citizens for exercising their constitutional and civil rights to frankly disagree with the hate group’s extremist ideology. Furthermore, it has supported the violation of the dignity, equality, and constitutional rights of all Floridians.

Given the numerous factors that influence the successful outcome of a political campaign, responsible candidates will never accept a hate group’s endorsement, even when it may appear as politically expedient, as this is inappropriate and unacceptable under any circumstance.

<> CANDIDATES BEWARE! DON’T BE FOOLED.

Candidates should be very weary of “SAVE,” for while the group lures candidates with promises of endorsement and support, the group is not actually interested in helping any candidate, but rather in getting candidates to endorse and publicly support “SAVE’S” extremist, ideological agenda! This is the outfit’s real objective.

In the end, many candidates have gone down in tragic defeat by naively getting in bed with “SAVE”; while many successful ones would have won with even more votes had they wisely declined “SAVE’s” so-called “endorsement.”

Consequently, respectfully declining “SAVE’s” endorsement demonstrates a candidate’s honesty, integrity, commitment to the common good, and respect for the most cherished values, principles and ideals of fair-minded, tolerant Miami-Dade Countians.

STATEMENT: REGARDLESS OF WHO THE VICTIMS ARE…

<> VERSIÓN EN ESPAÑOL AL FINAL.

ALL FORMS OF VIOLENCE ARE EQUALLY WRONG

Those refusing to condemn all violence are its enablers!

MIAMI, FL [06.13.2016] – This Sunday’s killings in Florida have brought home to all Americans the horror and perversity of violence. Whether it’s a prayerful gathering of pious Christians or a boisterous party at the self-billed “hottest gay [sic] bar” in Orlando, no one, absolutely no one, has the right to maim or murder anyone. Regardless of whom the victims are, all forms of violence must be condemned as being equally wrong; equally abhorrent.

Let’s not kid ourselves into thinking that some forms of violence are wrong while others are not. Yes, physical violence is wrong. But physical violence is not the only kind of violence being committed against Americans today.

There’s also legal, spiritual, psychological and moral violence; the kind of violence of which America’s innocent children, women, and families are victims in the pernicious ideologically-driven campaign of bigotry, hate, and discrimination currently being waged against Christians in our country and throughout the world. Who is condemning this violence?

We must not be hypocrites. We must practice a consistent ethics of respect for innocent human life be it physical, spiritual, or intellectual, as all innocent human life is equally precious and sacred. Selective indignation and cynical hypocrisy invariably turns us into accomplices and enablers of the violent.

Yes, we are all called to abhor and condemn acts of terror and hate such as the one committed in Orlando. But ethical consistency and intellectual honesty demand that we also abhor and condemn the not so subtle violence of those hurling the disrespectful, ugly slur of “homophobe,” “homophobia,” or “homophobic” to degrade, demean, and incite violence against everyone who dares to disagree with a macabre, extremist ideology. Who is condemning this violence? Who are enabling this violence?

We must abhor and condemn the violence committed by the ideological extremists promoting the slaughter of abortion where thousands of innocent, defenseless children are robbed of their life right in their mother’s womb every single day. Who mourns for these innocent children? Who values their precious lives? Who speaks truth to power imploring compassion and mercy for them?

We must also abhor and condemn the violence committed by the ideological extremists promoting unethical and morally challenged curriculum and “sexual education” programs that inflict untold spiritual and psychological violence against America’s defenseless school children, robbing them of their innocence, their purity, their modesty, and their virtue. Who is condemning this violence? Who are enabling this despicable, pernicious form of child abuse?

We must also abhor and condemn the legal violence committed by those pushing unconstitutional laws allowing individuals to enter bathrooms, dressing rooms, showers and other facilities designated and/or set aside for members of the opposite sex, in contemptuous and reckless violation of our constitutional rights to privacy and personal safety. Who is condemning this violence? Who are enabling these violent attacks on our constitutional rights and freedoms?

Let us be very, very clear: acceptance of any type of violence inevitably leads to the acceptance of all types of violence. Selective indignation and the cynical refusal to condemn violence in all its insidious forms and shapes, are what enable, incite and promote the violence that shocked us this Sunday.

Yes, what happened in Orlando is wrong, dead wrong. But it’s equally wrong, cynical, and hypocritical to arbitrarily select which victims we are going to cry for and which victims we are going to callously ignore and overlook. Those who do so are accomplices and enablers of the very violence they claim to abhor and condemn.

Stop the hypocrisy! Stop the demagoguery!
Stop enabling violence! Admit that violence towards one is violence towards all!

TARGET STORES’ WAR AGAINST CUSTOMERS

THE FLORIDA DEMOCRATIC LEAGUE VOTES TO END ALL BUSINESS RELATIONS WITH TARGET STORES AND TARGET CORPORATION

May 1, 2016

Mr. Brian C. Cornell
Chairman of the Board & Chief Executive Officer
Target Corporation
1000 Nicollet Mall
Minneapolis, MN 55403

RE: Target Stores’ War Against Customers / Reckless Disregard for Customer Privacy and Safety Rights

Dear Mr. Cornell:

Please be informed that the Executive Board of the Florida Democratic League (FDL), Florida’s largest minority-led Democratic voters organization, unanimously adopted a resolution calling for the permanent boycott of Target Stores until Target Corporation publicly apologizes for recklessly violating customer privacy and safety rights, and rescinds its extremist, ideology-based policy of allowing individuals to use opposite-sex dressing rooms and restrooms.

Furthermore, the FDL’s resolution also points out that human and civil rights are never based on an alleged sexual behavioral choice, preference, “expression,” or “identity.” These rights are based solely on an individual’s humanity or legal status, not on an alleged sexual behavioral choice or preference, or on an arbitrary opinion or fantasy of one’s sex, or so-called sexual “identity” or “expression.”

As a battle-proven champion for minority rights the FDL believes that everyone deserves to be treated fairly, that is why we strongly urges Target Corporation to unequivocally reject all policies that undemocratically force Target customers to submit to a macabre, universally-rejected ideology that is both hateful and inimical to the customers’ moral values, legal rights, and personal safety.

Please end immediately this hateful ideologically-based attack against the privacy and safety rights of all Target customers. We urge Target to the right thing; to get on the right side of history.

Respectfully,

Ms. Sara P. Espinoza, President  |  Mr. Nathaniel Wilcox, Vice Chairman
Dr. Eladio Jose Armesto, Chairman, Board of Directors
